Morning Quiet Times

Morning Quiet Times

This morning the weather was a combination of total grey fog, light mist and sweating ground. The last snow is gone; the earth is thawing.  Today, the ground is sweating profusely. It feels like the outdoors is trying to wring itself dry - like an old dishcloth - but there is no room for the dampness and the fog to go. The air is thick and wet.

With anticipation, we hope for the expected weather of 70 degrees! Spring is trying to arrive here in NW Indiana. The tulips, daffodils, crocus and ground iris are all beginning to erupt from the earth. What an exciting season!  Beginning with dirty and messy, but eventually it will move into the soft fresh greenery everyone waits for.

Nearly every morning my day begins the same.

7:00 am - Rise and Shine! Feed my two yellow labradors, Gracie and Sadie, set the tea kettle on the burner, set up my teacup with honey and tea bag, then the bathroom, tea kettle whistles, brew the tea and then settle myself in the TV room.

By 7:30 am, I have the television set to the YouTube channel subscriptions list. I see what new devotionals are available to watch. Once I decide, I grab my pen, highlighter pen, journal, Bible and my other current devotional readings. I'm ready. :-)

Today, my selection was the Jesus First channel.

The title: Psalm 139, God Knows.

From the description, "In this morning's devotional, we are taking a slow, peaceful walk through Psalm 139. You don't need to find the perfect words to explain what you are carrying right now. God already knows, He sits with you in the fog and you are deeply, intentionally loved." The link for you to watch, listen and meditate with is here: Jesus First

Breathe in. Breathe out. I breathe and begin.

My newest book is Fervent by Priscilla Shirer. [excellent!]

My second read is from Walk with Me, Jesus by Marie Chapian. [a favorite]

My third read is Portals of Prayer - January-March 2026. [from my grandson's school]

As I began listening to the message, it was talking about how often when we are asked about how we are doing, we respond with generic answers...saying we're good or fine. Often times we do this because we are tired or maybe weary; and even though we would like to tell someone what is really going on, we are just too exhausted. Saying 'fine, good or okay' is just easier. It takes energy to explain to others - or even admit to ourselves what we are feeling. My thought...with God, I/we don't need to explain anything. He already knows our thoughts and our hearts. He is always present and hears us without even having to say one word.

King David in Psalm 139:1-5, says it this way:

1 Lord, You have searched me and known me.

2 You know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand my thought from far away.

3 You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.

4 Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, Lord, You know it all.

5 You have encircled me behind and in front, And placed Your hand upon me.

What a comfort! He perceives my thoughts from afar. He helps life me out from under the fog of my own thoughts. The fog that the evil one uses to cause my doubts and fears.

On pages 63-65, Priscilla related the story of Elisha and how he talks with God. In the story, the prophet's attendant wakes early. He goes outside and sees the whole area filled with horses, chariots, military personnel and readying themselves for battle. #imminentdanger

What does Elisha do? He says, "those who are with us are more than those who are with them." No fog. Clarity! Can you imagine? You see masses ready for battle and he says this! #trust

The enemy wants us to live defeated. He enjoys seeing us living weakly. He wants us to only see our flaws and failures.

We have more. When we pray, we have more power than we realize.

Often, we forget this is part of our Christian armor - it is God's truth.

Priscilla says it this way:

"This is the belt of truth." "Now. Put. It. On."

As I re-read Psalm 139, verses 11-12, I am reminded "Surely, the darkness will overwhelm me and the light around me will be night... [But]Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You."

God is the light that shines through the darkness - and through the fog

In closing, the words from Portals in Prayer.

Romans 8:38-39

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our assurance comes from God alone. He holds us. He intentionally loves us.

He is there for us - even when we may be walking through the fog. Blessings ❤

BROKEN HEARTS

"Our real blessings often appear to us in the shapes of pains, losses and disappointments; but let us have patience, and we soon shall see them in their proper figures."~~Joseph Addison His love motivates her respect...Her respect motivates his love... ...is this the TRUE answer to prevention of broken hearts?? Rocky Paths, Sturdy Shoes and Weary Days

The final lines in my daily devotional: "Each of us may be sure that if God sends us over rocky paths, He will provide us with sturdy shoes. He will never send us on any journey without equipping us well." ...Alexander McLaren  I have been thinking about this verse all morning.  Recently is seems that my life path is cluttered by emotional debris, and I cannot seem to find the smooth or clear path.  Daily I feel distressed and filled with grief by the life I chose to share with someone that I thought was as committed to me as I was to him.  It feels like so much hurt and betrayal that I often don't know what to do next. Each day I begin with my devotions, my coffee, the little bits of news that I care to watch--but even though I have a daily routine, the load I'm carrying is so very heavy. My daily question continues to be "WHY?" and daily there are no answers. All I hear inside my head and heart is Life just is! Friends have been caring with giving their ad...

Discovery

The first time I remember that I could do something well, was when I learned how to make a Granny Square Afghan. My memory of this event came after seeing an afghan my maternal grandmother made.  Her pattern was created with monochromatic colors in the center of each square.  Each center was designed with assorted shades of blue, red, orange, green or yellow.  Every block was then outlined in black and the entire blanket edged in a simple black scallop. I thought it was beautiful! I wanted to learn how to make this blanket. One day while I was at her home, I asked her to teach me to make an afghan just like hers. This day began with a trip to the basement of her farmhouse. In the dark basement—which I always found a little scary—was the cabinet that had the many remnants of her previous projects. There were little bits of wool yarn, metal crochet hooks and an assortment of other colorful threads. We searched through the cabinet until we found just the right supplies....
